Play Dough

I'm looking for volunteers to make play dough. We use the play dough in the classroom to help reinforce math and language concepts. The students really enjoy these activities. If you are able to help by making some play dough, please let me know. Listed below is a recipe which I have used before. This play dough is easy to make and lasts a long time.

Play Dough
1 cup flour
1 cup warm water
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp oil
1/4 cup salt
food colouring

Mix all ingredients, adding food colouring last. Stir over medium heat until smooth. Remove from pan and knead until blended smooth. Place in a resealable plastic bag when cooled.

Shoes

If you haven't already brought in running shoes, please do. Your child requires running shoes for phys. ed. and will be wearing them on Mondays and Thursdays with their gym uniform. Running shoes are stored in a bin throughout the week. Kindly remember to label your child's shoes.
Thank you,
Mrs. Wheeler

What was lost has now been found

Thank you to all who looked for the lost vest. I'm happy to say that it's been found.

Your child can now earn up to six stamps each day. We've added the following to the preexisting list:

Be kind. Share.

This has always been apart of our essential agreement which was written together at the beginning of the year.

If your child has received 5 -6 stamps, you know they've had a great day.

Lost

One of our students has lost his vest. The vest was labelled, but the label has fallen off. Please check at home to see if you have an extra vest that does not belong to your child. Thanks for looking.

Congratulations!

This fall, our class wrote Haiku poems. All poems were submitted to the Polar Expressions Publishing contest. I am happy to announce that out of thousand of entries, several of our students have been chosen to to move forward to the final round of judging. Their poems are also being published in a book. A copy of the book will be sent to the school, but if you wish to purchase a copy of your own, please visit www.polarexpressions.ca and click on SHOP.

Congratulations to:
JK - Carter, Erick and Clara Joy
SK- Mateo, Temi and Aiden

Well done everyone!

Geometry

We have been studying Spatial Sense and Geometry this term. We are learning about 3-d and 2-d shapes. Recently, we have been exploring with pattern blocks. We have been making animals out of pattern blocks which ties in with our unit of inquiry.

Bear Claws

This month we are inquiring into animals. We are learning about animals in general, but concentrating specifically on bears. To this date we have learned that:
-animals live all over the world
-animals have babies and mother animals care for their babies
-some animals belong to a group called mammals and mammals have fur
-some animals (like bears) have paws and claws
To help us remember that bears have paws and claws, we made bear claws and then had fun eating them.

Gingerbread Faces

During our first week back at school, we read the Gingerbread Man. Much to our surprise, the gingerbread cut-out disappeared from our classroom! After a hunt around the new school, we found him. Look for a book in your child's Friday Envelope that describes how to prevent a ginger bread man from escaping. We also read Gingerbread Fred and compared it to the traditional Gingerbread Man book. We ended the week by decorating gingerbread faces and eating them. Yum, yum!

Sh for sheep!

Today we learned a new blend. Have fun watching this clip again at home:

Froggy Day!

Fr for frog! Thanks to all who brought in a frog today. We had fun learning our new sound "fr". We played a very fun game of freeze-frog. Ask your child how to play. Be prepared to jump!

ST Day

ST This Wednesday, bring in an item that starts with st.

Labels

Please label all of your child's items that are sent to school as many students have the same or similar items. When you pick up your child at the end of the day, please help your child to put their black shoes or gym shoes in the appropriate bins. There are two bins side-by-side that are labelled kindergarten shoe bins.

Thanks for your help,
Mrs. Wheeler
