Lost Sweater

Please check your sweaters. Erick is missing his sweater. It is labelled with his name. The sleeves have been mended. If your child brought home this sweater by mistake, please return it to the school. Thanks for looking.

Last Day

Friday is the last day of school. Students may come dressed in casual clothes. Please note that pick-up is at noon. After school is available until 6pm as usual, but you will be charged starting at noon instead of 4 pm.

Canada's Wonderland

What you need to know:
  • The bus is departing at 9 am. Please be at school by 8:45 at the latest.
  • Please apply sunscreen prior to coming to school child.
  • Don't forget to wear a hat.
  • Send enough money for snacks, drinks and lunch or bring a bagged lunch with several snacks and drinks.
  • Wear your SJA phys.ed. uniform.
  • If you are volunteering, there is now room on the bus for you.
  • We will be returning to school at 3:45 pm.

Graduation Tonight!

Please be at school by 6:45 pm.
Students will be sitting with their classes to begin. Awards will be given out, then certificates of promotion. After children have received their certificate, they will sit with their parents.

Please come dressed in smart casual clothes. Girls may wear a dress and boys should wear pants and a collared shirt. No jeans or t-shirts, please.

Upcoming dates

Tuesday, June 9 - Casual Day
Wednesday, June 10 - Graduation. Please be at the school for 7 pm sharp. Your child will be receiving a certificate on stage.
Thursday, June 11 - Canada's Wonderland trip. Students are to wear their gym uniforms. Please apply sunscreen to your child prior to sending them to school. Please send a bag lunch with several drinks or enough money to purchase lunch, drinks and a snack.
Friday, June 12 - Last day of school. This is a half day. Pick-up is at noon. The bus will be leaving at noon. If your child is on the bus, please make arrangements to have someone to greet your children.

Canada's Wonderland


To celebrate the end of the year, we are going to Canada's Wonderland. A permission form was sent home in your child's Friday envelope. Please return the form along with the money by Wednesday. If you would like to volunteer for this event, please let me know.

Arts Night

Don't forget! Arts Night is this Wednesday. The performance begins at 7 pm. Please have your child at St. Jude's at 6:45 pm. We will be performing a play and your child's art will also be on display.

Track and Field Day

Friday was track and field day at St. Jude's. We participated in the bean bag toss, the 25 metre dash and standing long jump. Thank you to all the parents who volunteered. It was a great day!

Extra-curricular activity




This week, many students enjoyed making a frog door hanger. The classroom was packed at lunch on Wednesday as children were busy making frog door hangers. Special thanks to Julia C., Jessica and Monica A. who volunteered.

Arts Night


Arts Night is Wednesday, June 3 from 7 - 8 pm. The kindergarten class will be performing a play. Attendance is required. This is a great time to invite friends and relatives. The children's art will also be on display. If you have any questions, please contact me: kwheeler@stjudesacademy.com.

Track and Field


Friday, May 29 is
track and field day.
We will be leaving at 12:30 pm to walk to a local part. Children will take part in running, jumping and throwing activities. Please make sure that your child is prepared for the day.
All students are to wear
their gym uniforms on that
day.
Check the weather to ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for that day. If the weather is warm on that day, consider sending your child in shorts as they will running and jumping and will become hot. Please apply sunscreen before sending your child to school. Also, please send a hat and water bottle as we will be outside all afternoon. If you would like to volunteer to help with this event, please let me know by Tuesday.

There is no school on Friday, as it is a PD day. The teachers at St. Jude's will be learning more about the IB programme.

Monday is Victoria Day and again there will be no school.

Earth Day


St. Jude's is celebrating
Earth Day
this Friday.
Students will be picking up garbage at a local park. Come dressed in blue or green to show your spirit.

Bring a garbage bag to school on Friday and receive 100 house points.

Litterless Lunch Week

Litterless lunch week starts on Tuesday. Pack a litterless lunch and earn house points. There will not be a garbage available. All garbage, including yougurt containers, drinking boxes and other similar items will be sent home in your child's lunch box. Please pack your child's lunch in reusable containers.

Something fast and something slow

On Monday, we will be beginning our unit called "Make It Go!" Please bring in something that moves slower (snail, turtle, worm...) than you and something that moves faster (horse, car, cheetah...)than you. You may bring in a toy, a picture or a book. Please do not bring in any live creatures.

Unit of Inquiry

We will be starting a new unit of inquiry, under the theme, how the world works. The unit is called, "Make Things Go!" This is sure to be a fun unit. Please stay posted.

Phonics


This week we will be reviewing blends that we have already learned. Look for a new class book, "The Blob". We will also be learning "ar" in star and "ch" in church.


We will be using
play dough
in our upcoming math unit. I am looking for several parents to make play dough. If you are able to help, please follow the recipe below. Kindly send the play dough to school with your child next week.
Play Dough
1 cup flour
1 cup warm water
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp oil
1/4 cup salt
food colouring
Mix all ingredients, adding food colouring last. Stir over medium heat until smooth. Remove from pan and knead until blended smooth. Place in a resealable plastic bag when cooled.


Many students took their running shoes home over March Break. Please remember to return your child's running shoes. Your child needs a pair on indoor running shoes for phys. ed. These shoes cannot be worn outside. If you have any questions, please email me at kwheeler@stjudesacademy.com.
